Both men got together through shared pain and despite it all, Arthur is Drifter's anchor in the dark times.

Equinox - Day and Night

Desperate to find himself again, Drifter is clinging into Equinox - a frame which embodies masculinity and femininity. In his mind, he needs to live up to his family's wishes but his other half is the one which holds no regrets and is trying to be content with life.
The Night, which is the shadow of his former self, still haunts him within the frame but also grounds him. The Day, which is the form of his future, pushing him to hold nothing back.
Forms change, time goes by and forms change like a metronome denoting tempo - just like Drifter's constantly shifting psyche.

Relationship

Relationship built on past trauma and understanding is very fragile, concealed. Everyone knows they are together and they do not deny it, but they keep their vulnerabilities behind closed doors.
Field has no place for feelings; there is time and place for everything.Arthur is very cautious of Drifter due to mood swings. He is aware of whys and hows but he also knows that he can be a dangerous man. And while he has the Helminth strand, he is still human and not immortal. Despite it all, he values his own life above their relationship with hesitation.Drifter has a complicated relationship with emotions to begin with. At the start, he was not sure if the attraction he felt was "love" at all but Arthur took that as a part of their healing process. Because Arthur is Drifter's anchor, he is quite possessive of him and will tunnel vision to save him in the field despite any commands or life-death situation. If anything, Drifter has no regard for himself and trusts the other to ground him when needed. In one of his episodes, he would still trust Arthur to put an end to it.

Indifference

Under Eternalism, there exis many versions of the same person. One of such is Drifter succumbing to Indifference.Drifter being broken and torn on the ship had no option but take the deal from the Void. Given how it was a willing transaction, Indifference sought the child out, guiding her throughout the years. But the way indifference is, it never gave Void powers until way late, post-Duviri escape.
Drifter being even weaker from all those looping deaths, it took the opportunity and infested his mind, altering it. Indifference was truly an unstoppable force and altered the man permanently with apathy and lukewarm feelings towards life itself, but indominable human spirit always prevailed and deep inside, his actual self still exists somewhere.

Upon Drifter being plagued by Indifference, his Warframe begun to shift as well.
The forms, although appearance is misleading, embody the apathy and empathy. Empathy to cure and apathy to destroy, only to make it anew again.
A perpetual cycle of needless war and destruction.
